The Detroit Story
Our hometown and the birthplace of our model for Kid Success. Detroit is a bastion of resilience, showing every day what is possible when ordinary people come together to nurture a city that works for everyone. As the motto goes: “We hope for better things; it shall rise from the ashes.” Brilliant Detroit aims to operate 24 hubs across the city in order to affect population-level change with, for, and by children and families.
What is a Brilliant Cities Hub?
Our hubs are intended to be a one-stop shop for families with children 0-8. These locations are often repurposed, vacant houses, which ensures they are accessible within neighborhoods and have a warm and familial feel. At our hubs, families can participate in programs within each of the pillars of our work — education, health, family support, and community-building. Offerings include: literacy support, early childhood vocabulary development, nutrition, physical fitness, mental health support groups, community meals, and more. We also provide resources including diapers, clothing, food, and books. Everything is free of charge.
